How DWP Eyecare works

All DWP staff who use display screen equipment (DSE) are entitled to a VDU eyecare voucher that provides a range of great discounts at Specsavers.

The voucher first provides a free full eye examination, including digital retinal photography if you’re over-40 or your optician recommends it. If the optician finds that you require glasses specifically for DSE use, you’ll be entitled to:

£45 glasses

One complete pair of glasses from the £45 frame range, fitted with standard PENTAX CR39 single vision lenses plus a scratch-resistant treatment when required solely for DSE use.

Free lenses

If your prescription is for DSE use and for other uses, eg distance or reading, your costs are covered for multifocal lenses as follows: £35 for bifocal lenses, £49 for varifocal lenses and £79 for occupational lenses.

£45 towards glasses

OR the £45 contribution can be used towards an upgrade to other frame ranges.

a further £20 towards glasses

Premium Club is an integral part of every VDU eVoucher and it offers a further £20 contribution when glasses are selected from the £99 frame range or above, thus giving you a combined contribution of £65.



If you have your free eye test and the optician determines that you don’t require glasses for DSE use you can still benefit from Premium Club and get £20 off glasses from the £99 range or above which includes designer glasses. Also, you still get 2 for 1 glasses from our £69 range and above.

VDU eyecare voucher: Can be redeemed at any Specsavers Opticians in the UK. Upgrades to more expensive ranges and lens options at customer’s expense. Vouchers are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. One voucher per transaction.

2 for 1: Second pair from the same price range or below and to the same prescription. Extra Options available at an additional charge on both pairs. Excludes safety eyewear.

Premium Club: Cannot be exchanged in whole or in part for cash. Only one voucher per transaction.

Personal data: Please note that Specsavers supply DWP with the names of people who have applied for a voucher and the type of glasses (if any) that are prescribed. This is to enable DWP to validate the issue of vouchers and glasses for invoicing and service delivery purposes.
