Structural glazier, Alex Miller from Essex has been named this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
The 27-year-old received the accolade at a star-studded event hosted by Rylan Clark in London. He was chosen by a panel of expert judges and was handed the award by former Girl’s Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, who kicked off the campaign earlier this year.
Alex wins a £10,000 cash prize and £1,000 glasses wardrobe from Specsavers, after being named the overall winner. Having been presented his category winning trophy earlier in the evening by Dina Tokio, Alex was then back on stage to receive the ultimate prize, beating the eight other finalists to the post.
Embrace wearing your glasses as much as you can
Alex said: ‘I entered the competition when I saw it on Facebook. It was a great surprise to find out I was the Facebook favourite voted by the public. To go through and win Spectacle Wearer of the Year was amazing and very overwhelming.
I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in primary school and kids were always calling me things like four-eyes. Embrace wearing your glasses as much as you can. These days they’re quite fashionable, so they can be both functional and an accessory. So, don’t worry about it, just crack on.’
Held at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London, the awards were attended by lots of specs-wearing stars including Louis Walsh, who helped judge the finalists, and Love Islanders, Chris Hughes, Kem Cetinay, Amber Davies and Olivia Attwood. TOWIE star Megan McCann, Pete Wicks, Spencer Matthews, Vogue Williams, Twiggy, Vicki Pattison, Claire Richards, Roman Kemp and Martin and Roman Kemp were also in attendance.
