Your Glasses Style

Oversized prescription glasses for men and women

Microscopic glasses move over — big, bold frames are back in fashion. Retro style has never been more current, and what better way to make a statement than with your specs? From exaggerated cat-eyes to clear, chunky frames — here’s our picklist of the best oversized prescription glasses for men and women.

Are oversized glasses in style?

With celebrities like Elton John rocking the style, you’d have thought they’d be stuck in the past. But oversized glasses have had a modern makeover. Their larger than life lenses and exaggerated silhouette are great for prescription glasses wearers who want to channel their fun, outgoing nature — while still remaining stylish. Just think of all of the famous glasses-wearers who use oversized frames as an extension of their personalities. And, with the right pair, you can rock them too.

Chunky glasses

Chunky glasses have become a popular eyewear option, with a distinct retro and playful vibe that has captivated the attention of celebrities and fashion icons alike.

Recently, this trend has become a go-to choice for those seeking a stylish yet functional accessory. Not only are they fun, but the thick and bold frames of chunky glasses offer exceptional coverage and support for prescription lenses, making them a versatile yet fashionable choice.

Take these Specsavers SENTAI GOGGLE glasses — if you want to make a bold impression, these are definitely for you! Or to take it to the next level, try the MARC JACOBS 16 frames — in brown tortoiseshell acetate plastic, the chunky structure makes for a striking look.

Big and bold

With bold, oversized glasses, it’s all about the angles. This is why square-shaped oversized glasses are perfect for a contemporary look. Specsavers' chic CARMELO glasses are sure to exude an ice-cool vibe with clear acetate plastic in a captivating ombre blue.

If you’re looking to go bigger and bolder, Specsavers OGDEN glasses are the epitome of statement frames.

Showcasing a dark red tortoiseshell print with clear crystal temple tips, these bold frames create a fusion of classic and contemporary for a timeless appeal.

Oversized wire frames

For oversized prescription glasses with a retro feel, choose some thin metal frames.

These MARC JACOBS 14 pilot style glasses have sleek gold frames and large lenses that work well with strong features and more angular face shapes.

Ever wondered how an iconic pilot style could be reimagined in an oversized fashion statement? HUGO HG 15 are a bold take on the classic design, with shiny silver metal for a mesmerising mirror effect.

The black acetate plastic tips and flexible hinges add a perfect finishing touch, combining style and functionality. Pair with blue jeans and a simple white tee to finish off the look.

Big frames that mean business

If you love the oversized trend, but can’t be too daring with your fashion, then choose bigger styles with just one accent feature, like a browline-inspired look.

They still make a style statement, but are subtle enough for a business meeting or office attire. Just take these Ben frames.

Their strong brow-line still draws attention, but the semi-rimless style makes them less harsh against the face, so the overall effect feels cool and put-together. Think Robert Downey Jr’s red carpet style.

Statement specs

When it comes to statement specs, it’s bigger the better, right? These stylish MARC JACOBS 34 frames give off a high-fashion, celebrity vibe with their sweeping brow line and gold colour at the temples.

Subtle but standout, these are perfect for everyday wear but can also effortlessly transition to a night out on the town. If you’re looking for more style advice, be sure to check out our dedicated blog on leopard print glasses.

Oversized cat-eyes

Or, add some personality to your frames with a pop of colour. In dark red acetate, this Marc Jacobs pair is a refreshing change from the go-to black silhouette. Pair with a classic red lip for timeless sophistication and style.

Chunky transparent frames

These VR 17 transparent frames by Victor&Rolf are the perfect choice if you’re looking to push the boundaries and redefine style.

The lilac tint adds an extra wow factor to your look — pair with an all-black ensemble to make sure these statement specs get the attention they deserve.

Retro round glasses

Retro style is back, and what better way to channel vintage vibes than with a pair of oversized round glasses?

These oversized, clear LIBERTY LONDON LL08 frames look like they’ve been plucked straight out of the 60s — in the best possible way!

Delicate metal sides embrace the art nouveau style with a cut-out section and peach enamel panel at the temples.

Dare to go red? These exaggerated round Specsavers J TITANIUM 11 glasses add a subtle pop of deep red colour, the contrasting gold interior and mottled tips in acetate plastic keep them feeling modern and fresh.

How big is too big?

Big glasses clearly make a fashion statement, but can they work as functional prescription frames? Of course — but there’s a trick to finding the right style for you.

So, how should they fit on your face? It’s important to remember that “oversized” can vary completely depending on your face shape.

While they should be on the bigger side, your glasses still need to be in proportion with your features. For instance, if the frames cover your eyebrows, or your eyes are not in the centre of the lenses, then they’re not quite right.

Likewise, if the frames wobble on your nose, press upon your temples, or touch your cheeks when you smile, they’re not the right pair for you. It might just mean that you need to choose a different style of oversized frame that compliments your features.
