Lifestyle and family blogger, Candice Brathwaite, shows us how she rocked sunnies during a recent holiday in Barbados.

Ok, I have a confession to make. I much prefer wearing sunglasses to actual glasses. Maybe it’s the idea of them making us look mysterious or perhaps it runs deeper. My dad was never without his trusty wayfarer-shaped shades, either sitting precariously on the top of his nose or nonchalant balanced on his head, they too have become a staple of my own.

So when it came time to pack for our first family holiday in seven years, I made sure to save space for several sunglasses as I really do think they help finish an outfit. I think designer sunglasses can be a great gateway accessory, allowing you to own a higher end piece without breaking the bank.

MARC JACOBS SUN RX 02

First up were these beauties from the new MARC JACOBS collection. I was instantly drawn to them as I can tell just by looking as to what will suit my face shape. While from the front they look pretty standard, it’s the arms which really do the talking. Flecked with a multi-coloured pattern on the sides, they instantly added a touch of fun to any holiday outfit.

These were my wildcard, I’ve been unsure about round frames in the past and feel like you really need to be careful about the weight of the frame to avoid looking like a caricature! However these Balmain sunglasses are light as a feather and with the faintest tint on the frame, they made way for my face to still be able to shine through. I find the Balmain designs to be so delicate and intricate that they truly feel luxurious to wear.

Again another pair from the amazing MARC JACOBS collection which like their predecessor scream ‘I am so famous, please don’t take my picture. Ok if you must!' I’m really drawn to the shape of the frame and darkness of the lens with two daisies on the sides for added effect. These sunglasses are not only great protective eyewear but also fabulous face furniture.

CATH KIDSTON SUN RX 05

These Cath Kidston sunglasses were another pair that I knew that would suit me instantly. The subtle cat-eye shape gives them a 'Breakfast at Tiffany’s' vibe. The polka dot pattern made these sunnies seem more playful and the kind of pair I would reach for when spending a day running after the kids.

Last but by no means least, I can only describe these Balmain beauties as avant-garde hunny! The shape and the soft architecture of the entire frame really made these head-turners. I was also pleasantly surprised by how lightweight they were. It just goes to show that a great pair of frames need not weigh your face down.
