Can I get earwax removal if I have a communicable blood or skin condition/infection?
We believe all patients should be able to access the audiology care they need, whether that is directly from us or by us supporting a clinical referral to a specialist service. Before delivering wax removal services in stores, clinicians will ask a series of health-related questions at the start of your appointment. These questions are based on clinical guidance from our professional bodies and are used by all our clinicians to determine the most appropriate provision of care. Where a patient meets any of the criteria for requiring specialist care we would make the appropriate onward referral to ensure that they get the care they need.
Why might you need to refer me and what does the clinical guidance say?
To ensure all patients receive the best care possible, our clinicians will work within a set scope of practice, with guidance being provided by our professional bodies. The guidance advises on when a patient might require an onward referral for specialist care. A referral will be made to the GP with a recommendation that they seek treatment from an ENT specialist. This is to ensure that the patient gets the care they need via an onward referral and handover of care.
