If you've got an eye problem, call Specsavers, and we'll put you through to an expert

It's easy to take your eyes for granted, especially if your vision hasn’t changed. However, being aware of what good eye health feels like is important. That way, if something doesn’t feel quite right, you’ll know the signs to watch out for, the steps you can take, and when it’s time to get professional help from your local Specsavers optometrist.

Below, we’ve provided a list of common eye conditions and vision problems, so you know when to reach out for support from your local Specsavers store in Wales.

Call us first

If you are experiencing any urgent or rapidly-changing eye-related symptoms or concerns, call your local Specsavers store in Wales directly.

Our optometrists are here to help and provide a same-day appointment, which is fully funded by NHS Wales, so it won’t cost you a penny.

Please note, appointments for eye health checks cannot be booked online, so don’t hesitate to pick up the phone.

What will this eye health check involve?

Our eye health check service in Wales is designed to provide expert care for urgent eye issues. If you're having problems with your eyes and need quick support, our optometrists are ready to assist.

This service ensures that you get the right help, when you need it most, without needing to see or obtain a referral from your GP.

Sometimes these issues will be picked up as part of a routine sight test, but don’t wait until a sight test if you notice any changes or issues develop with your eyes.

What conditions do we help with?

If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, give us a call for an eye health check:

  • Blurred or cloudy vision
  • Reduced vision
  • Floaters or black dots
  • Gritty, itchy or scratched eyes
  • Bloodshot, red or sore eyes
  • Headaches
  • Swollen or puffy eye lid
  • Sudden sensitivity to light

We can assess and manage these conditions promptly. If required, we'll refer you to a specialist for further care.

This service is not suitable for standard sight tests, contact lens appointments or other routine assessments, which can be booked online.

Service available in Wales only

There are similar services available in parts of England, but this particular service is currently only available in Wales, under the Welsh General Ophthalmic Services (WGOS).

This relates only to treatment at Specsavers in Wales, but isn’t limited to Welsh residents – so if you develop eye issues while on holiday in Wales, for example, you may be able to seek support through this service too.

If you're unsure whether your symptoms are urgent or routine, our staff will help you when you call.

For any and all eye issues, don't wait. Call us now to speak with our optometrists and get the right care as soon as possible – even if you don’t have an appointment.
