Specsavers home hearing tests

Our team of mobile audiologists provide a comprehensive hearing and ear care service to those who cannot get to one of our stores unaccompanied.

All of our visiting audiologists are fully experienced in conducting hearing tests at home, so you can be sure you, or someone you care for, will receive the same care and attention you’re used to. Safety remains a priority so we are following NHS England's guidelines regarding PPE.

What happens in a hearing test at home?

At-home hearing tests are very similar to the ones we do in-store, just with a few adjustments and specialist equipment to make them home-friendly.

Before the test

We’ll give you the name of your audiologist before your visit so you know who’s coming to your home.

When they arrive they will decide on the best area in your home for the test.

If you have mobility issues or are bedbound, then the test can be done wherever you’re most comfortable, so long as it’s nice and quiet.

During the hearing test

Your audiologist will use a tiny camera to examine the health of your ear canals and eardrums.

Then you’ll wear a pair of headphones to listen to sounds at different pitches, and you’ll press a button every time you hear a sound.

Your audiologist will ask you some questions to find out more about your hearing, and answer your questions too.

Choosing your hearing aids

We have a wide range of digital devices to suit your lifestyle and budget.

Our bestselling Specsavers Advance range, made exclusively for us by leading manufacturers, starts at just £500.

In some areas we offer an NHS-funded home hearing service which includes new hearing aids. Please call us on 0800 089 0887 to check your eligibility.

Fitting your hearing aids

You’ll have another appointment where your audiologist will fit your new hearing aids and makes sure they’re programmed correctly for you.

They’ll also show you how to use and look after them.

Your hearing test provides us with a unique prescription, or hearing profile, which is loaded into the hearing aids.

Aftercare services

You’ll have access to our aftercare package to make sure you’re fully supported on your journey with us, including a four-year warranty and a 100-day money-back guarantee (from the date of fitting).

If you experience any difficulties, our fully trained teams are available to carry out basic hearing aid maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

We're in the process of rolling out free home hearing tests across the UK for those who are eligible.

Where are free home hearing tests currently available?

We're in the process of rolling out a free home hearing test service across the UK, but in selected parts of the country, our stores can offer at-home hearing tests.

To find out if this is offered in your area call us free on 0800 731 8367*

How do I know if I’m eligible for a free home hearing test?

  • You or a loved one might have a condition that stops you from leaving your home unaccompanied due to poor health.
  • You are living with a diagnosed mental health condition that prevents you from leaving your home without the assistance of another person.
  • You may be housebound or bedbound due to a physical disability.
  • If you live in an area where NHS-funded home hearing visits are available, your GP may need to confirm you are registered as housebound and a formal GP referral may be required.

What if I'm not eligible for a free or NHS-funded home hearing test, or you don't currently service my area?

If you’re not eligible or we don’t yet offer our dedicated free home hearing test service where you live, this could change in the future as we continue to expand our coverage across the UK.

In the meantime, your local store may still be able to support you with a hearing test and expert advice at home. Please contact your local store or call 0800 731 8367 to find out if this is available in your area.
