The story behind KidsFit
When it comes to glasses there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ frame design. This is particularly the case for around 60,000 children in the UK who have Down’s syndrome – half of whom will need glasses.
Children who have Down syndrome often have a small nose bridge which makes buying glasses very difficult. Only a handful of opticians in the UK even provide these specialist glasses and they tend to be quite plain.
At Specsavers we want all children to have access to fun, affordable and well-fitting glasses, so we spoke to parents, children and experts in facial parameters. The result was our specially designed KidsFit range which also features Disney characters.
With an exciting new range, you need an exciting new model, which is why we were thrilled that Cora Bishop, who has worn glasses since the age of four, agreed to be the face of our KidsFit campaign.
Cora’s glasses have made a huge difference to her ability to learn and play but never fitted perfectly, which is why she was so pleased to try out our KidsFit range. During her photoshoot, Cora particularly liked the frames featuring Disney princesses Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty.
Cora’s mum, Cheryl, said they are very excited about the new range: ‘They’re really nice; the colours of them and the designs on the arms. Just knowing that she has some that fit her so well and they’re not going to fall off when she’s running around.’
‘The Specsavers new Disney range is a great balance of fashion and function. One feature that is particularly important in this range is the bridge is set lower on the frames - this naturally helps the child look through the lenses rather than over the top. The flex sides also make them both safe and substantial.
‘I've closely worked with more than 200 families, so I've heard many of their experiences. Sometimes the cost of glasses can be prohibitive so the two free pairs deal Specsavers are doing is brilliant - what you don't want when a child is a visual learner is to have a break in their development and if they've broken their specs, and don’t have another pair, then there is going to be that gap.’
