More information

Of all of our senses, sight is the one that we rely on most. Regular eye tests ensure these complex organs stay healthy, and that any problems with our vision can be corrected – that’s why opticians recommend we have our eyes tested every two years.

Before Iris arrives at Specsavers, we take a look through her eyes. We see the difference between perfect vision, short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism – all common conditions. We can understand these conditions more easily when we see how the eye itself works, and how glasses or contact lenses can adjust the focus of the eye so that the image we look at is perfectly clear.

As we grow older, our eyes naturally become less efficient at focusing between near and distant objects – something that tends to affect us around our mid-forties. Other conditions, such as glaucoma and cataracts, are more common with age, but regular eye tests can pick these up in the early stages and treat them before they become a problem. It’s been a couple of years since Iris last had her eyes tested, so she’s made an appointment to see an optician at Specsavers.
