Members of staff at Specsavers in Worcester have raised more than £1,000 in a 16-hour golf day challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Store director Alan Richards was joined by contact lens advisor, Dean Taylor, audiologist and hearing director Mike Walker, and lab manager Yasser Zahran for four rounds of 18-holes on Wednesday 21 June.

The challenge follows a raffle held in store on Saturday 3 June, which kickstarted the fundraising for Macmillan.

‘We’re so pleased to have raised more than £1,000 so far for Macmillan and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has already donated to this fantastic charity,’ Alan commented.

‘The golf day really was a challenge – we must have walked more than 15 miles throughout the day – but it was worth it to raise funds and show our support for the thousands of people battling cancer across the country.

Funding specialist care

‘Cancer is something that has sadly affected too many of us – either directly or through someone close to us. Raising money for Macmillan funds specialist care for those who are in desperate need of it.’

The 72-hole challenge took place at Worcester’s Bransford Golf Club, a par-72 course featuring 14 lakes and two challenging island greens.

Alan continued: ‘I’d like to say a huge thank you Bransford Golf Club for allowing us to use their course for free – it was very generous offer and we thoroughly enjoyed all four rounds.

‘The fundraising will continue in the coming months and I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to visit our Just Giving page at to donate.’
