Wolverhampton resident Marie has cause for celebration after being chosen as a semi-finalist in her age group category of the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Marie, aged 45, entered the national competition after seeing an advert and thinking ‘why not?’ She has recently been chosen out of hundreds of other entries in the area as a semi-finalist, and is in with a chance of winning £10,000.
To mark her achievement, Marie was invited to the Wolverhampton store, to receive a bottle of champagne, a £150 eyewear voucher and a certificate.
Pretty and glamourous
Marie said: ‘I’ve worn glasses since I was five-years-old and I love them. They’re the first thing I put on, and the last thing I take off every day. I used to loathe my glasses – the old plastic NHS frames, but watching a Marilyn Monroe film, “How to marry a millionaire”, my viewpoint instantly changed.
'I realised you could wear glasses and be pretty and glamourous, and from that day I’ve loved every minute of wearing my specs!’
‘Marie has a definite style and clearly embraces her spectacles. She loves the vintage 50s styles with a little bit of glitz and sparkle, especially the cat-eye style frames,’ added store director Hardip Bahia. ‘Her style really should be an inspiration to others, and she truly is an ambassador for glasses wearers, encouraging everyone to embrace their spectacles as part of their unique style.’
The awards were launched by Nadine Coyle, formerly of Girls Aloud, earlier this year
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. Each age category winner will be treated to a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening on 10 October, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
