The team at Specsavers in Witney donned their finest camouflage outfits and cooked up a storm as part of Armed Forces Week 2015 (22 to 28 June). They managed to raise £242 for Blind Veterans UK.
On Friday 26 June, Specsavers helped celebrate 100 years of the charity’s work helping blind ex-Service men and women by holding a cake sale as well as dressing up in army-themed gear.
Cathy Mullen, store director at Specsavers in Witney, said: ‘We’re delighted to support Blind Veterans UK and would like to thank local people for helping us raise £242! The charity is currently supporting more than 4,000 blind veterans and with our help, they hope to reach their target of recruiting 700 new beneficiaries in the coming year.’
Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and offers support, training and rehabilitation to blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. The charity’s mission is to ensure that all blind veterans have access to the finest quality services to help them discover life beyond sight loss.
Nick Caplin, chief executive of Blind Veterans UK said: ‘We are delighted that Specsavers in Witney supported us during Armed Forces Week. We hope that the partnership will help us to continue to raise awareness and support for the life changing work of the charity in our centenary year.’
