Staff at Specsavers in Wisbech baked tasty treats for customers and passers-by last week as part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cup Cake Day campaign.
The store raised over £60 by selling strawberries and cream cakes, lemon drizzles, chocolate cake and more. The money will pay for a communication tool instore, which uses symbols rather than words to help communicate with customers who suffer from advanced dementia.
Store director of Specsavers in Wisbech, Mike Avery said: '23 million people in the UK are affected by dementia in some way and the Alzheimer’s Society does fantastic work to support those people.
Improving communication for customers with dementia
‘Holding a bake sale was a lovely way to engage with our community and raise awareness of the charity and the tool we will be able to buy with the money raised will make great improvements to the service we can provide in supporting our customers with dementia and their friends and families.’
