Staff members at Specsavers in Wisbech teamed up with local traders in Wisbech Market to promote the link between a healthy diet and eye health, in conjunction with National Eye Health Week (18 – 24 September).
The team helped out at the Fountain Imports fruit and vegetable stall to make locals aware of the impact diet can have on their eyesight and long-term eye health.
Various other traders also joined in by displaying posters throughout the week, highlighting the benefits certain produce found in the market can have with maintaining eye health.
A word from our store director
Gareth Drewett, store director at Specsavers Wisbech, said: ‘One of the main themes of National Eye Health Week is promoting the importance of regular eye tests to check on your overall eye health, as well as vision.
‘It’s astonishing that so many people are needlessly living with sight loss in the UK today. At least half of all sight loss cases are avoidable and a simple eye test can unearth a number of serious health conditions.
‘We thought it would be beneficial to go one step further and make people aware of how to get on top of their eye health through a healthy diet while in between regular visits to their optometrist.’
