Specsavers in Winchester has donated an estimated 3,000 pairs of unused glasses to the local Lions Club to help people in the third world gain better access to optical care.

All for a good cause

The team has spent the year urging residents to drop off their unwanted specs at the store, which have been collected by the Lions Club in nearby Eastleigh for use in their annual SpecTrek event. The initiative sees around 50 Lions Clubs in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire collect more than 100,000 unwanted glasses, which are then sorted and graded before being sent overseas.

Malini Barchha, store director at Specsavers Winchester, said: ‘We’ve had a brilliant response from customers to our appeal for glasses so far this year. Every pair we donate will help make a massive difference to the lives of people who have difficulty finding glasses or professional eyecare.’

Still collecting

Specsavers Winchester is continuing to collect glasses for Eastleigh Lions Club so if you have any old specs to spare, please donate them at the store today.
