The Wick opticians has pledged to help youngsters stay safer on darker afternoons and evenings by donating 100 high-visibility vests to Newton Park Nursery.

Highlighting road safety

Specsavers optical consultant, Craig Mathieson, visited the nursery to present children and staff with the vests.

Craig said: ‘At this time of year, it can be very difficult for drivers to see pedestrians, making it especially vital to ensure children are safe when arriving and leaving the nursery.

‘Helping to increase the safety of local children is so important and we’re pleased that we have been able to donate the vests to benefit nursery pupils and staff.’

Keeping visible

Lilian Wark, head teacher at Newton Park Nursery, added: ‘We are delighted with the vest donation from Specsavers.

‘They’ll definitely come in handy for educational class trips by helping to ensure all our pupils are easily identifiable and keeping them visible to any nearby traffic.’
