When a managerial position opened up at a new Specsavers store in Whiteley Shopping Centre in August 2015, Simon Ashton leapt at the chance to take on the role.
Worked his way up
The move marked the latest step in Simon’s rapid progression in his 12-year career with Specsavers. Starting off as a lab technician at the Havant and Waterlooville store, he quickly worked his way up to become lab manager at Specsavers in Fareham.
Simon says: ‘Over time, I found I wanted more and decided it was time to take the leap and became an optical assistant at Fareham.
‘I worked my way up to supervisor level over the next few years while also completing Specsavers Cert 3 and 4 dispensing courses. Following this I started the Dispensing Opticians Degree with ABDO College.’
This constant drive to improve and develop his skills led Simon to take on the store manager position at Whiteley, where he remains to this day.
He says: ‘My main responsibilities would be to make sure my staff are trained to the highest standard to ensure they can provide the best advice to each patient while maintaining a high level of customer service.
'Our store is a friendly, welcoming environment for anyone who visit us.’
