Specsavers in Whitby has played host to a group of school children from the nearby Stakesby Community Primary School, in order to educate them on the importance of eye health.

The team at Specsavers in Whitby gave the children from Stakesby School a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of an optician and workshops in eye health.

An important lesson

The children were rotated between three different sessions, the first looking at spectacles and lenses and how they work, the second looking at the anatomy of the eye and exactly what happens during an eye test and what an optician looks out for, and finally the day ended with a session on optical illusions and a quiz.

A word from the store director

Norman Cole, store director at Specsavers in Whitby, says: ‘It’s so exciting to be able to see future generations not only learning about the importance of eye health but also taking a keen interest in what it takes to be an optician.

‘Looking after your eye health is important at any age, not just as you get older, so we hope we’ve thoroughly educated these young people – and perhaps inspired the next generation of opticians’
