West Bromwich has raised more than £400 after pledging to support the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) during National Eye Health Week (19-25 September).

Every pound counts

Specsavers in the Sandwell Shopping Centre donated £1 from every sight test taken during the week to the RNIB, carrying out a total of 407 tests. 

Majid Jawaid, store director, is thrilled with the result: ‘We are delighted to be able to donate £407 to the RNIB. We want to say a big thank you to all our customers who visited us during the week and supported the fundraising initiative.

‘As well as raising money for the charity, we wanted to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye tests. Half of all sight loss cases are preventable and we urge our customers to pop in very two years and undergo a simple eye test. These tests are the first step toward prevention and act as a general health check, picking up on any abnormalities or concerns.’ 

The Royal National Institute of Blind People raises awareness of sight problems and how to prevent sight loss in the UK. As well as raising awareness, the charity campaigns for better services and a more inclusive society by providing emotional and practical support to people affected by sight loss.
