The team at Specsavers in West Bridgford is appealing to local residents to spread some festive cheer and collect gifts for servicemen and women in the hospital over the Christmas season.
Staff are collecting donations for the annual ‘Stocking for Heroes’ appeal, a campaign run by UK military charity, Help for Heroes, that aims to provide presents to wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who will spend the Christmas period in hospital.
Spreading Christmas cheer
‘Being in hospital is never easy, so being there over Christmas must be extremely difficult,’ commented store director, Stephen Rogers. ‘Everyone should receive a gift at Christmas, so we want to spread some good will for those servicemen and women who can’t be at home over the holidays.’
Now in its 9th year, the annual appeal reaches hundreds of heroes in hospital and recovery centres across the country. Help for Heroes is asking the general public to donate set items for stocking for men and women. Stephen added: ‘We have been raising funds and awareness for Help for Heroes throughout the year with a variety of activities, so we’re delighted to be continuing our support with the stocking appeal. These gifts will mean a great deal to those who receive them, so I’d like to encourage as many people as possible in our local community to take part.’
The closing date for donations is Sunday 6 November.
