Specsavers in Wembley has recently welcomed a new optometrist – but she has a lot more experience than the average new recruit.

That is because Sonal Kantaria, who has recently completed her induction at the High Road store, has just returned to work after a ten year career break to raise her family.

Back to work

Sonal originally qualified at Bradford University, and then worked for an independent optician before taking a career break. She decided to go back to work once her children were heading towards the end of their time at secondary school.

Sonal chose Specsavers because of their commitment to supporting her, and other women like her, back into the workplace.

A true superwoman

Rakesh Kapoor, store director in Wembley, said: ‘Sonal is a true superwoman. Despite having taken quite a long career break, she has settled back into optometry straight away and is a great addition to the team.

‘We made sure she had flexibility in terms of her clinic times, and lots of mentoring and support from other optometrists. We also helped her refresh her skills – and most importantly, restore her confidence – with a structured training programme. Sonal is really grateful for the support she has had so far, and is really enjoying her new role.’
