A charity concert held to support local trombonist, Stephen Sykes and supported by Specsavers Wells, has raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Three years running
For the third year running, the concert was held in Wells Town Hall and featured the Pink Bra’ss band. As well as the store sponsoring the event, two members of the team, Pat Trott and Pam Fisher, are part of the band. The evening also included a performance from harpist and singer, Siona Stockel.
A good cause
Stephen, who has Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had stem cell treatment at the end of 2017, was delighted to be well enough to play as part of the band on the night. The two previous concerts had raised enough money to fund the drug Stephen needs to help reduce his cancer before the stem cell treatment as this wasn’t available on the NHS. The funds raised from this concert will go to Cancer Research UK so that they can continue to help others affected by the disease.
‘We were absolutely delighted to be able to put the concert on again and show our continued support for Stephen,’ says Pat. ‘We rehearsed really hard and everyone had a really enjoyable evening but the icing on the cake was that Stephen was able to perform with us this year.’
A raffle also helped boost the fundraising total and included a pair of designer, single vision specs worth £149, donated by the store.
