Specsavers in Wellington hosted a fundraising day on Wednesday 10 October and raised funds to help four-year-old Zac Oliver from Telford so he can fly to America for lifesaving treatment.
Zac’s family have launched an appeal to raise enough money to fly him out to Philadelphia where he can have the CAR-T therapy needed to beat a rare type of cancer (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) that he was diagnosed with in May this year.
In a bid to help them reach the £500,000, staff from Specsavers in Wellington wore red for Zac, invited customers and passers-by to sample sweet treats from their bake sale and offered specs MOTs (cleaning and adjustments) in exchange for donations.
A word from the store director
‘This is an extremely difficult time for Zac and his family and we’re proud to be doing all that we can to support them,’ said Wellington Specsavers store director, Emma Davies. ‘Our generous customers enjoyed being greeted with baked goods and the whole team really got behind the cause, which was lovely to see.
‘We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made a donation and we encourage others to do the same. If it’s not convenient to pop into Specsavers, you can use your phone to donate from the comfort of your own home by texting ZACH75 £1 to 70070 or go to his fundraising page.’
