Staff at Specsavers Wellingborough swapped specs for aprons on Tuesday (14 July) to hold the Great Big Wellingborough Bake Off in support of Cransley Hospice.
The team – including Tracy, Emily, Tina, Sam and Beccy – cooked up an array of sweet treats to battle it out for a place in the final, which was judged by three representatives from Cransley Hospice. Customers were also invited to sample the team’s efforts, in return for a donation, raising £300 for the charity.
Following two rounds of baking, lab assistant Tracy Fisher’s carrot cake was selected as the overall winner.
‘We’re very proud to be supporting Cransley Hospice and our bake off was a fantastic way to raise awareness of the charity amongst our customers,’ said David Williams, store director. ‘The whole team really enjoyed getting involved in the competition and their cakes went down a treat with our customers.’
Cransley Hospice is a nine-bed in-patient unit providing specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses. To provide patients with an enhanced level of care, the Trust aims to raise £850,000 per year, enabling it to go beyond what NHS funding alone is able to provide.
