The team at Specsavers in Watford are brimming with pride after their very own audiologist, Kaneez Sham, was invited to the ITV studios to test the Loose Women panel's hearing.
Putting the spotlight on hearing health
The popular ITV show featured actress Stephanie Beacham of The Colbys and Dynasty fame. Stephanie revealed she has been deaf in her right ear since birth but kept it a secret. The panel, led by Andrea McLean, had their hearing tested by Kaneez before the show to create further dialogue about hearing health.
Kaneez conducted hearing assessments for Coleen Nolan, Jane Moore and Nadia Sawalha. All three showed signed of wax build up in their ears, notably Nadia who had an 80% blockage in one ear. Jane’s test showed a slight decline in hearing however, due to background noise when testing, Kaneez suggested a hearing test in a sound-proofed booth like the one available at Specsavers in Watford to ensure the results were accurate.
Kaneez's view of the day
'I’m glad that Loose Women decided to put the spotlight on hearing health on their show. The panel discussed with Stephanie how hearing loss can impact your life – and those living with you. Many people are unwilling to admit a loss of hearing but it is a very common problem.
'Research shows that on average people wait around 10 years to seek help for hearing loss after first noticing a problem. That’s why we recommend people aged 55 and over have a hearing test every two years.
'I am about to turn 50, so it was nice for me to have ticked off a TV appearance ahead of my big day! The panel were lovely and it was really interesting to be behind the scenes, seeing the show is put together. If I have persuaded a few people to have a free hearing test at Specsavers, then I feel I have done my duty.'
