Locals have shown their support for the national Armed Forces Day charity appeal by donating nearly 150 items to Specsavers in Warminster. All donations received have now been collected for distribution to serving UK military personnel across the globe.

The team in store collected items in celebration of Armed Forces Day which took place on Saturday 30 June. Donations to the morale boxes situated in-store included: toiletries, beverages, sweet and savoury food, treats and toys for military working dogs, entertainment items such as playing cards, puzzle books and novels.

A word from the store director

Store director, Richard Goring, says: ‘We are all immensely thankful to our military service personnel. As a town that is home to a large military population, we couldn’t let Armed Forces Day go by without doing something special.

‘We amassed a host of essentials and gifts that helped to fill the morale boxes. All donations are greatly appreciated by the entire team here at Specsavers in Warminster and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed.’

The initiative is run by Wiltshire’s Operation Shoebox (Smiles Club), who send the boxes out to places such as Somalia, Estonia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Falkland Island and ships.
