The team at Specsavers Wantage have pledged their support for a local Alzheimer’s day care centre.
Staff at the store nominated the October Club as their nominated charity for the year, raising funds to help with ongoing refurbishments needed at the centre.
'Keen to get involved'
‘The support that the October Club offers is particularly close to a number of our team’s hearts, as we have several relatives suffering with Alzheimer’s and Dementia,’ commented Michael Buckley, store manager. ‘When we saw first hand the work they do and the benefit they bring to the community we were keen to get involved in supporting them.’
The store has already kick started their fundraising programme with a bake sale raising £45 and has various other activities in the pipeline including Michael taking part in a sponsored sky dive in September.
‘I’m not quite sure what I’ve let myself in for with the skydive,’ added Michael. ‘I’ve never done this before, but I figured it’s for a great cause, so I thought – just go for it and show my support for the October Club.’
You can sponsor Michael for the sky dive by visiting his Just GIving page or pop into store to make a donation.
