Sherrie Yates is the contact lens manager at Specsavers Wandsworth and is the first port of call for customers seeking advice on all things related to contact lens care.

Wealth of experience

Sherrie began her career in optometry 21 years ago, working for a number of opticians in Newcastle, Liverpool and Tunbridge Wells before joining Specsavers Wimbledon in 2015.

After an 18 month spell at the store, Sherrie moved to the Wandsworth area after getting married and subsequently took up a position at the local Specsavers in January this year.

‘I get great joy out of meeting my patients over and over again over the years,’ says Sherrie.

‘I teach patients to put there contact lenses in and out, how to look after their contact lenses and make sure we give a good aftercare service.’

Eye on the ball

Sherrie looks after a wide range of patients on a daily basis, each with their own individual needs. She says her youngest regular customer is just seven years old, while her oldest is 84.

‘Both patients needed contact lenses for sport (rugby and golf),’ says Sherrie.

‘My proudest moment, in all my years, is that the seven year old now plays rugby at a professional level in Newcastle.’

Away from work, Sherrie is a sports fan and can often be found catching up with the latest F1 race or rugby match, or following her beloved Newcastle United.

She is also a keen cook but says she often makes too much food at home – meaning she ends up bringing leftovers to work to give to the hungry Specsavers Wandsworth team.
