To prepare for Recycle Week 2018, which takes place from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 September, Walworth Specsavers are focussing their efforts on encouraging customers to bring in their old spectacles to donate to Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).
Vision Aid Overseas
VAO has been Specsavers international eye care charity since 2008 and since then Specsavers has raised more than half a million pounds. Founded in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has been helping some of the world’s poorest people to see clearly for over 30 years.
How Specsavers helps
Stores across the UK have recycling boxes on the shop floor, where customers are encouraged to bring in their old spectacles. The donated specs are recycled by VAO and money raised by selling the recycled materials will support the charity’s work providing eye care to people in deprived areas across Ghana, Zambia and Ethiopia.
From the store director
‘We want to say a big thank you to all of our loyal customers who have donated their spectacles over the years’, says store director Suraj Shah.
‘With Recycle Week coming up, we’d love to see our VAO box full to the brim of spectacles, so please remember if you have any lying around and pop in to see us!’
