The staff at Specsavers Tunbridge Wells have taken some time out to improve their knowledge of autism ahead of World Autism Awareness Week this month.

Three members of the team at the store in Mount Pleasant Road – Poppy, Tilly and Rory – have completed a course designed by the National Autistic Society.

Supporting customers

The course consists of modules on understanding autism, how autism can have an impact on the senses, and how to communicate better with people with autism.

It also looks at what adjustments stores can put in place to make getting an eye test easier for people with autism and those who may be accompanying them.

Delivering a great service

Ian Hyland, store director in Tunbridge Wells, said: ‘We know that all our customers are different, and have really individual needs. That is why it is so important to us as a team to develop ourselves to deliver the best service we can to everyone we see in store.

‘Improving our autism awareness was an important piece of that jigsaw, and I am delighted that Poppy, Tilly and Rory have taken the time to complete this course. They are an asset to the team.’
