A Torquay man has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Matthew Timbs, aged 39 could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner, Love Island hunk Alex Miller, winning £10,000 and the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Delighted to win
Matthew, a language school English teacher was invited to visit his local Specsavers in the Willows Sainsbury’s store to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £125 glasses voucher. He took the opportunity to try Specsavers’ innovative Framestyler technology to help choose a new pair of specs, ahead of the next round of judging.
Matthew Timbs, Torquay regional finalist said: ‘This really is a wonderful surprise to make it through as a regional finalist. One of my work colleagues entered me and I had forgotten all about it, so it was really lovely to get the call. I started wearing glasses at sixteen when there wasn’t much choice but now there is and my advice to people is try as many frames as possible and enjoy wearing them.’
A word from the store
Steve Parker, Specsavers Willows store manager, said: ‘It was great to meet Matthew. He is a brilliant ambassador for wearing glasses and we really hope he makes it all the way to the final’.
The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. If he triumphs in his age category, Matthew will meet Claire and rub shoulders with other celebs at a glitzy awards ceremony in London.
