Two staff from Torquay have successfully cycled from coast to coast, raising more than £5,000 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Simon Simmonds and Sean Crome from Torquay were joined by Michael Todd, 29, from Specsavers in Teignmouth to complete the Specsavers Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in support of Cancer Research UK.
The cycle team rode through challenging weather conditions from Minehead to Torquay in memory of Joy Filon, long-standing store director in Torquay, who sadly passed away after a bold fight with cancer in 2014 and Simon’s wife who also passed away just seven months later. The cyclists completed the gruelling 90 mile ride over two days, only stopping to rest overnight.
Simon Simmonds, store director, said: ‘I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of our customers and staff from other Specsavers stores so I’d like to say a huge thank you. The work that Cancer Research carries out is essential if we are ever going to beat this terrible disease.
‘The bike ride was fantastic fun, despite the weather, and I don’t think any of us could think of a more beautiful part of the country to embark on such a challenge.’
