Torquay opticians will be dipping their toes in fundraising fun next week as they raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Run into the Sea

Last year, Specsavers in Torquay raised £4,000 for the charity and are hoping to beat their target with this event. Fundraising activities will be held throughout the week, kicking off with a Run into the Sea on Sunday 17 January, which will see staff joining others brave the cold Torbay sea in fancy dress.

Other activities include staff member, Andy having his legs waxed, a raffle, bake sale, face painting and staff cycling as far as they can on an exercise bike in store.

Continuing to support Cancer Research UK

Specsavers Torquay store director, Simon Simmonds said: ‘We’re delighted to be supporting Cancer Research once again this year and hope to smash through our target.

‘As well as losing one of our colleagues, Joy Filon last year, I also lost my wife to cancer, which is why this is a charity close to all of our hearts. This week will see staff brave ice cold water and hot wax all in the name of charity – what better reason to donate! We’d like to invite everyone down to the store and join us in supporting Cancer Research UK.’

The fight against cancer

Annabel Coakley, Cancer Research UK's Local Fundraising Manager for Devon, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted that Margaret and the team have chosen to support us again for the second year running!

‘Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research.’
