Specsavers in Tooting is on the hunt for the area’s most stylish specs wearers for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition, which will give residents the chance to claim a £10,000 cash prize.
The store is encouraging local glasses wearers aged 16 and over to put themselves forward for the prestigious accolade, with selected finalists being invited to attend a glamourous awards ceremony in London hosted by Steps singer Claire Richards. One overall winner will scoop the top Spectacle Wearer of the Year award and the cash prize.
'Hoping for plenty of entries'
Shuabe Khan, store director at Specsavers Tooting, said: ‘We’re excited to announce the return of Spectacle Wearer of the Year and we’re hoping for plenty of entries from our customers for this year’s competition. You never know, we could even see someone from Tooting walking away with the £10,000 grand prize.’
Charity in the frame
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s – plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and mingle with celebrities at the awards in London in October.
One pound will also be donated to Kidscape for each entry made, with the money raised helping to support the charity in providing practical support to children and families affected by bullying. Spectacle Wearer of the Year has raised more than half a million pounds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape over the past nine years.
To be in with a chance of scooping the biggest accolade in the specs-wearing world, glasses wearers can enter the competition online.
Deadline for entries is 1 July 2018.
