Staff in Tiverton furthered their ongoing fundraising initiative in aid of Cancer Research UK by lending their support to a charity cyclethon.
The team recently partnered with members of staff from three other Specsavers stores in the South West to support the fundraising efforts of the Specsavers Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge.
Staff at the store have raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK so far this year and provided lunch for the fuel-hungry participating cyclists from Specsavers in Torquay and Teignmouth when they passed through.
Store director, Emma Denham, said: ‘The Specsavers team here in Tiverton are on a mission to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research this year. The cyclists did a brilliant job and deserve a big pat on the back for all their hard work.’
The team of three amateur cyclists rode through challenging weather conditions from Minehead to Torquay in memory of Joy Filon, long-standing store director in Torquay, and Sophie Simmonds, who worked at the Tiverton store. Both sadly passed away within months of each other having boldly fought cancer. They completed the gruelling 90 mile ride over two days, only stopping to rest overnight.
