Tiverton Specsavers were proud to be among the sponsors of the 2017 Mid-Devon Community Awards.
Hosted by Devon Live editor Patrick Phelvin and broadcaster Judi Spiers, awards were presented to hard working and worthy local citizens in a number of categories.
A word from the editor
Mr Phelvin opened the evening and commented on how the awards were growing from strength to strength. He referenced mid-Devon as being the best place to live! BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi Spiers called the awards the best ceremony she attended.
Talented young writers
Specsavers sponsored and presented the writer of the year titles.
Edward Kasprzak, aged 11 won in the 7 to 11 age category and William Delafield Cook in the 12 to 15 age category.
Edward’s story was a first person story about life after war from the perspective of a soldier two decades after the First World War, reliving the horrors of trench warfare.
William’s creative story imagined the hatching of a baby dragon, bringing to life the mythical creature and its surroundings.
Tiverton Specsavers store manager, Jennifer Hart, presented the winners.
Jenny said: ‘Both Edward and William are incredibly talented young writers with amazing imaginations and sense of creativity. I hope to see them as published authors one day. They may even be the next J K Rowling! Congratulations both.’
