Staff at Specsavers in Thornbury were overwhelmed with the support they received from the public at a fundraising day for the local branch of the Brain Tumour Support charity.
The team held a cake sale to raise money for the charity after customer Jason Carroll was diagnosed with a brain tumour following an eye examination at the store. More than £350 was raised from donations for homemade sweet treats and customer, Mrs Davis won a pair of single vision designer specs worth £125 from the raffle.
Store manager Claire Stones, said: ‘The day could not have gone any better! Some of our customers even brought in cakes they had made for the bake sale, it was a very special day. It was also great to have a representative from Brain Tumour Support to talk to customers and raise awareness about their work.
Hopefully this fundraising day and Jason’s diagnosis both demonstrate just how important regular eye examinations are, not just for your sight but for your overall health.’
