Five of staff in Thetford are now proud to say are qualified Dementia Friends.
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, helping staff to develop an understanding of dementia and support customers and employees that are affected by the condition.
Paul Clark, store director, says: ‘We’re proud to have all our team qualified as Dementia Friends.
‘Having a good understanding of dementia is really important and taking the qualification has really helped the entire team to support customers who suffer from the condition.’
Paul adds: ‘It’s shown us that while performing our everyday duties it’s equally as important to take a little extra time to support and care for customers. It’s been a rewarding qualification to gain.’
Vital customer care
‘The Alzheimer’s Society is such an important charity. 850,000 people in the UK now suffer from dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025.
‘Almost everyone is affected by the condition, whether it’s themselves or knowing someone else that does. This is why it’s so important we gained this qualification to ensure we can support all the customers that come in store.
‘Our qualified team members are identifiable by their blue badges so you can be safe in knowing that you’re in good hands.’
Dementia Friends is a qualification that is completed online and entails watching a series of scenario-based videos.
