Sam Corrie is the HR manager for Specsavers in Taunton and has spent 29 years caring for the employees and Specsavers patients. Her role now involves regular visits to schools and universities to talk about career opportunities.
Bringing help for funding
Sam also helps coordinate the financial sponsorship of students to support their professional qualifications, enabling them to become dispensing opticians, contact lens opticians, audiologists or qualified opticians locally across Taunton, Tiverton and most recently, Exeter Specsavers.
Specsavers also now provides a year-long apprenticeship scheme which is open to anyone over the age of 16 and requires no previous optical experience. HR manager, Sam Corrie, has worked hard to ensure this new programme achieves a successful start.
She was delighted when their apprentice, Grace Callery, was recognised for graduating with flying colours at a national award ceremony held by Specsavers in Birmingham this year.
Grace met Specsavers joint managing director, Paul Marshall, who congratulated her for passing and said: ‘This is just the beginning of your career and there are so many opportunities open to you.
'Next time I shake your hands you might be a Specsavers store partner running your own business.'
Taunton store director and optometrist, Scott McGowan, added: ‘As a local business we want to unlock the potential of young people in and around Taunton, kick start careers and invest in their future.’
