Specsavers in Tamworth celebrated the town in all its glory by participating in the We Love Tamworth event and raising almost £400 for two local charity appeals.
We Love Tamworth
Members of staff welcomed customers and passers-by to their stall in the Tamworth castle grounds, while raising awareness about the importance of eye care and regular hearing checks.
With lucky dips, a balloon pop challenge, Spider-man and the Specsavers Big Ear handing out leaflets and ’flossing’ for donations, there was plenty on offer for the whole family. To boost the fundraising total, staff offered spectacle MOTs (cleaning and adjustments) in return for donations. All proceeds went to the Poppy Fields Appeal and Carter the Brave to fund research and treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
‘It was a lovely day and the team enjoyed celebrating everything that’s great about Tamworth,’ says store director, Lisa Large. ‘We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped us reach a fantastic fundraising total. We’ve attended the event in previous years and it’s always a great success.
‘We have supported the hospital for some time now and both charity appeals are close to our hearts. A number of our staff have loved ones and friends who have been treated there and so we always jump at the chance to give something back.’
The Poppy Fields Appeal was set up for 12-year-old Poppy Guilder, who was diagnosed with a large brain tumour at just 14 months old but lives to continue her remarkable fight against cancer. Carter the Brave was set up for six-year-old Carter Chatting, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January 2016. Both are undergoing treatment at the Oncology Ward in Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
