A Talbot Green man has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Wales as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
James Blackman, aged 24 from Pontyclun, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if he wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
James was invited to visit his local Specsavers store in Talbot Green to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘I’ve become more confident’
James said: ‘I’ve been wearing my glasses since I was young and used to get bullied in school for it. Since then I have become more confident in wearing them and think that they are the perfect fashion accessory to match my outgoing personality!’
‘Fantastic semi-finalist for Wales’
Hannah Davies, store director of Specsavers in Talbot Green, said: ‘James really enjoys wearing his frames and we hope that his confidence will inspire other spectacle-wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘We think James is a fantastic semi-finalist for Wales, and all the team at Talbot Green wish him the very best of luck for the next round of judging for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If he triumphs in his age category, Mr Blackman could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
