The team at Talbot Green has helped raise money for a charity that supports people with macular degeneration by hosting a bake sale in-store.
Supporting those with macular conditions
Staff decorated the store in balloons and banners and offered customers a variety of cakes and muffins in exchange for a donation to the Macular Society. Customer donations helped raise a total of £64 for the charity.
The Macular Society is a UK-wide charity supporting people who suffer with conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, a disease usually affecting over 60s which causes blurred or loss of central vision. It uses donations to fund research into the disease, as well as cover the costs of operating helplines and support groups for people suffering with the condition.
Understanding the disease
Hannah Davies, store director of Specsavers Talbot Green, says: ‘Macular degeneration is one of the most common sight conditions in Wales, with an estimated 500,000 people having the condition to some degree in the UK. It’s important that we do what we can to ensure that research into this condition continues and that people understand the effect it can have on their health.
‘If you find yourself struggling to read or write, or notice your central vision is blurred, our team can provide expert advice on how to slow the progression of the condition, or refer you to hospital for treatment if necessary.’
