To mark National Apprenticeship Week, colleagues at Specsavers in Swiss Cottage wish to put the spotlight on one of its recent recruits.
Meet Naziya Anwar
17 year old Naziya joined the team in January this year and in a short time, she has already developed a great rapport with local customers. Naziya is one of 200+ people currently enrolled on the Specsavers one-year apprenticeship programme.
It is one of the UK’s biggest government-accredited schemes and is open to anyone over the age of 16. Like Naziya, you do not need any prior optical experience to be successful with your application.
Why it appealed to Naziya
Naziya says: 'The training you receive and the future career opportunities available at Specsavers really interested me. I’ve only been here a couple of months, but already, I am getting some amazing insights into what make a store successful.
'I really enjoy interacting with the customers and the fashion element that comes from the designer brand offering adds a touch of glamour to my day to day!
'It is early days, but I am also learning lots about the optical industry and the technology and innovation is pretty impressive.'
What’s next for Naziya
Once Naziya has completed her apprenticeship, she will become a qualified optical assistant with the chance of full time employment at Specsavers. The programme also opens up successful apprentices to further studying opportunities, with the potential to qualify as a dispensing optician within five years.
A word from the store director
Store director Sheena Shah says: 'Here at the Swiss Cottage store, we’ve always been big supporters of the apprenticeship scheme. It’s a great way for us to nurture talent in our local community. To see an apprentice flourish and go on to fulfil their career aspirations is very rewarding. I am sure Naziya will be one of our many success stories.'
