A student from Swansea has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Lauren Bell, 22, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money.
Lauren, who started wearing glasses when she was 11 years old, entered the competition after being encouraged by her grandfather and mum.
Love your glasses
‘When I was younger I was a bit embarrassed about wearing glasses, but now I pick frames that are fashionable and I can match the frames with my outfits,’ she says. ‘I feel confident wearing my glasses as they are part of my identity and I love wearing them.’
Lauren was invited to her local Specsavers store and presented with a bottle of champagne, a semi-finalist certificate and a £150 voucher to spend at the store.
Swansea store director, Stephen Jones, says: ‘It is great that Lauren is really happy with her frames and loves to wear them. We hope that her confidence will inspire other spectacle wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Swansea store, I’d like to congratulate Lauren on getting this far in the competition.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape anti-bullying charity.
