Staff at Specsavers Swanley have completed training to become Dementia Friends so they can better support customers with the condition. They’ll be identifiable by badge on their uniforms, indicating their increased level of dementia awareness to customers.
The comprehensive training covers all aspects of dementia and discusses how it affects people in different ways. With particular relevance to Specsavers it also describes how senses can be affected, including sight and hearing.
Ian Hyland, retail director of Specsavers in Swanley says: ‘I always thought dementia was to do with a person’s memory – after the training I know it’s much more than that.
'By learning about dementia it really opened my eyes to how at Specsavers, when interacting with our customers, we can all take a little time to support and care.’
