Sutton-in-Ashfield resident Adam Bristow has cause for celebration after being chosen as a semi-finalist in his age group in the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition, run by Specsavers.
Adam, aged 22, entered the national competition because his specs are his ‘favourite thing to wear’ and are a key part of his signature look. He has recently been chosen out of hundreds of other entries in the area as a semi-finalist, and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000, a holiday to New York and an eyewear wardrobe worth £1,000.
A great surprise
To mark his achievement, Adam was invited to his local Specsavers store in Sutton-in-Ashfield to receive a bottle of champagne, a £150 eyewear voucher and a certificate.
Adam said: ‘I love wearing glasses; I’ve had to wear them since the age of seven so it does feel weird if I’m not wearing them now! I entered the competition after seeing it advertised on social media. My friends and family have always said how much my glasses suit me, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It was a great surprise to find out that I’ve reached the semi-final!’
‘We really like how Adam styles his specs and think he represents young glasses wearers in the area very well,’ added store director Nigel Davidson. ‘Adam demonstrates how to look great in specs and how to wear them with confidence. We wish him the best of luck for the rest of the competition.’
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, earlier this year to celebrate specs wearers nationwide. If Adam wins in his age category, he could meet Kimberly and a host of other celebs at the star-studded awards ceremony in London on 12 October.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. Each age category winner will be treated to a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
