Specsavers in Sutton Coldfield is donating £1,000 to two local charities as part of its commitment to supporting good causes in the community.
Customers have been voting for the cause they’d most like to support by placing tokens in the store’s charity boxes. After six months, the tokens have been counted to reveal how much of the pledged £1,000 will be donated to each charity.
Yvonne’s 5 Minute Angels and The Talking Newspaper Association were selected as the store’s charity partners for 2015 and will receive £530 and £470 respectively.
‘We’ve been running this initiative for a couple of years now and have been overwhelmed by the support it has received,’ said Tim Goodhew, store director. ‘By asking our customers to select the charities they’d like to see us support, we can ensure that the money is going to causes which really matter to the community.’
About the nominated organisations
Yvonne’s 5 Minute Angels provides counselling support and training for people in Sutton Coldfield to provide support to others in need. The charity was set up in memory of local woman Yvonne Barraclough who passed away from cancer in 2013.
The Birmingham Talking Newspaper Association serves the blind and partially-sighted community of Birmingham and the surrounding areas by providing listeners with a free weekly digest of local news, information and entertainment.
