Surrey local, Sally McDonald has qualified as a finalist out of hundreds of people for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year (SWOTY) awards, in the South East region.
Sally, who is a fashion and beauty enthusiast has the potential to win £10,000 as well as an extravagant holiday in the Bahamas, plus a personal shopping trip in London, complete with styling.
More about the finalist
Having been bullied at school for wearing glasses, Sally has overcome this to become comfortable and confident in her specs, and encourages others to do the same. Sally said: ‘Glasses are the ultimate accessory and I have a few different pairs to team with a variety of outfits.’
Sally has wanted to enter SWOTY for a long time and with the encouragement of her mum, and a bit of selfie practise, she entered and secured herself a spot as a regional finalist.
A successful win of the category will mean Sally has the chance to meet Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh who launched the awards earlier this year.
Four age categories of 16-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+ are in place and a winner will be chosen from each one, plus a wildcard finalist who is voted for by the public on Facebook, and the Ireland winner.
The big event
The awards will be held at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 7 October. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, and one overall winner will take home the ultimate title in specs wearing.
The winner of The Spectacle Wearer of the Year will receive £10,000, a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of the Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort, plus a selection of specs ready to mix and match with outfits.
