Surrey Quays Assistant Manager Rhys Nelson is a familiar face at the store, having worked for there for four years now. We learn about how he came to work at Specsavers and what he likes best about his job.
How did you end up as Assistant Manager for the store?
‘I actually studied a degree in Forensic Science at London Metropolitan University. After I finished uni I started doing some temping work in retail and found I liked the field, so when a job opened up as an optical assistant at Specsavers, I applied for that. I’ve been at the Surrey Quays store ever since.’
What do you like about your role?
‘I like that there’s a science base to the optical field, but I also wanted to work for a well-known, respected brand and Specsavers offers that. My team works really well together and everything flows smoothly in the store so I think it’s a great place to work. I was also brought up in the local area so I know Surrey Quays quite well.’
And how do you spend your spare time?
‘When I’m not in-store I dedicate a lot of my time to music – it’s a good way to switch off from everything.’
