The Sudbury store have collected almost 2000 pairs of unwanted glasses from the local community, to help improve the eye health of those less fortunate in the developing world.
A wonderful sight
Since January generous residents have been handing in their old specs to the store. They have now been donated to international sight charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) to benefit those in need across Africa.
The charity will recycle the glasses and the proceeds from the reusable parts will be put towards establishing vision centres, training local eyecare professionals and providing outreach services to isolated communities.
Make a difference
Lyn Copeland, store director, has been championing the appeal in store: ‘Like us, our customers are huge supporters of the work of VAO. Something as simple as dropping your old specs in our collection bucket can really make a difference to someone’s quality of life – it’s as simple as that.
‘At this rate, we’re just about on target to collect around 4000 pairs by the end of the year, so if you’d like to contribute, just pop by the store.’
